Starship Technologies Launches Robot Delivery Service at Angelo State University

San Fransisco and San Angelo, TX (August 16, 2023) —Starship Technologies rolled out its robot food delivery service today at Angelo State University. Guests at Angelo State University can have their favorite drinks and food delivered to their building of choice!

Starship’s fleet of autonomous, on-demand robots will deliver from 6 campus eateries: Starbucks, Subway, Tu Taco, The Ranch Smokehouse, Roscoe’s Den or Einstein Bros. Bagels.

The school’s nearly 11,000 students and faculty can now use the Starship app (iOS and Android) to order food and drinks from local retailers to be delivered anywhere on campus, within minutes. The service works in conjunction with the student meal plan.

“I’m really excited for these delivery robots! Having the ability to get breakfast delivered straight to my first class building with my meal plan will be a lifesaver for early classes and long days,” said ASU student Aryana Willie.

Starship is already providing services to campuses across the country, including University of Illinois Chicago, University of North Carolina at Charlotte, University of Wisconsin-Madison and Bowling Green State University. Since launch, all campuses have increased the number of robots, dining options and hours of operation to meet the high demand for the service.

To get started, users open the Starship Deliveries app, choose from a range of their favorite food or drink items, then drop a pin where they want their delivery to be sent. They can then watch as the robot makes its journey to them, via an interactive map. Once the robot arrives, they receive an alert, and can then meet and unlock it through the app. The delivery usually takes just a matter of minutes, depending on the menu items ordered and the distance the robot must travel. Each robot can carry the equivalent of about three shopping bags of goods.

‘We think the Ram Fam is going to love our little robots,” said Chris Neider, VP of business development at Starship Technologies. “Their quick, convenient and pretty cute so they will be a fun addition to campus life but they’ll also make it easier for students to get food and drinks on the go or wherever is most convenient for them.”

Starship Technologies operates commercially on a daily basis around the world. Its zero-emission robots have made more than 5 million autonomous deliveries, traveled millions of miles and make more than 150,000 road crossings every day. The robots use a combination of sophisticated machine learning, artificial intelligence and sensors to travel on sidewalks and navigate around obstacles. The computer vision-based navigation helps the robots to map their environment to the nearest inch. The robots can cross streets, climb curbs, travel at night and operate in both rain and snow. A team of humans can also monitor their progress remotely and can take control at a moment’s notice.

“We are excited about this opportunity to provide a new level of service to the on-campus ASU community. We see this as fun, new, and convenient way to bring food straight to our Rams to continue to fuel the blue and gold!” Angie Wright, Vice President for Finance and Administration, Angelo State University said. “I am looking forward to having my Starbucks drink delivered to my building!”
